Outdoor Program and Training Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY

The Outdoor Program and Training Coordinator supports delivery of Outdoor programs and events and adult outdoor training to meet the Council’s goals and objectives.  They are responsible for ensuring that Girl Scout Leadership Experience (outdoor) is made available to every Girl Scout and for supporting staff and volunteers who deliver outdoor program and training. The Outdoor Program and Training Coordinator creates program experiences, manages large events, evaluates, facilitates and supports outdoor adult trainings and supports summer camps seasonally, up to and possibly including being the sleepaway camp director.

 

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

Program Delivery

  • Develops and delivers program in multiple ways and locations to ensure high quality Girl Scout program is available to girls and adults to reach the council’s goals, including membership recruitment and retention goals.
  • Promotes program and training through newsletters, social media, and in collaboration with other departments.
  • Ensures that the highest level of safety standards established by GSOFCT, GSUSA, ACA, state and federal guidelines and/or law enforcement agencies are met for all programs and trainings.
  • Interprets and implements GSUSA and council policies, procedures and standards as they apply to program delivery.

Outdoor Training

  • Support outdoor trainers in facilitating outdoor training; including building a training community.
  • Review, update, and create curriculum as needed for outdoor program training needs.
  • Oversee the care of training materials to ensure they are in the best working condition and all supplies are available when necessary.
  • Keeps abreast of trends and issues in the community affecting girls and council services and GSUSA changes, trends and requirements related to outdoor program, training and council.
  • Supports and participates in regular meetings and trainings as needed in order to develop high functioning staff and adult training volunteers.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental education or camping and recreation preferred or a relate field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a management position that includes supervision of employees and/or volunteers.
  • Budget planning experience including tracking and monitoring expenses.
  • Expertise in all matters relating to current issues for girls.

 

ADDITIONTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS and PHSYCIAL DEMANDS:

  •  Ability to manage multiple priorities to meet established deadlines and goals.
  • Oversee and implement grant funding initiatives including tracking expenses.
  • Ability to work flexible hours (including nights and weekends) to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Become a member and maintain membership in GSUSA.
  • State-wide travel required.
  • Valid Connecticut driver’s license.
  • Must show proof of liability coverage of personal vehicle.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects up to 20 lb.
  • Active participation in Product Sales initiatives.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
