Sleep Away Camp Program Director

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Program Director works closely with the Camp Director and administrative team to develop and supervise camp-wide and inter-unit programs. Works with camp staff to deliver safe and exciting programs following State of CT, ACA, Girl Scouts Safety Activity Checkpoint Standards, and GSofCT policies.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Works with the Camp Director and administrative team, through delegated responsibilities, for the overall administration and general camp operations following program standards with an emphasis on age-appropriate and session specific programs.
- Attends administrative staff meetings.
- Supervises the program staff through staff assignment, and staff schedules.
- Follows and enforces Camp Staff Personnel Policies. Provides conflict resolution and problem solving with staff as needed.
- Conducts staff meetings for sharing ideas and for planning camp programs.
- Conducts supervisory conferences and performance evaluations and clearly communicates performance expectations.
- Ensures all program areas are provided with material resources and curriculum for their areas with the help of the specialty staff.
- Facilitates all-camp activities while encouraging girl-planning in small groups/patrols and program delivery.
- Manages multiple priorities and oversees program schedules to ensure work is completed in a timely and productive manner.
- Maintains health, safety and program standards for campers, staff and self. Reports accidents and files incident reports promptly.
- Reports needed repairs of equipment and facilities to the Camp Director.
- Participates in all regular camp activities, such as meals, flag ceremonies, cookouts, opening and closing days and kapers.
- Participates in opening and closing procedures of the camp season.
- Maintains professional camper/staff relationships throughout the camp season.
- Keeps records, and prepares written reports as requested.
- Assists campers and staff in emergency situations.
- Keeps the Camp Director (or other designated person) and program staff informed on activities, problems, and concerns on an on-going basis.
- Creates specialty program curriculum
- Other duties as assigned
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Possess a High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Commitment to the Girl Scout approach to outdoor education and experiential learning
- Strong leadership abilities
- Show the willingness to abide by the policies and practices of Girl Scouts of Connecticut.
- First Aid/CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Medication Administration Certification must be obtained upon being hired
- Possess experience which relates to job responsibilities including successful experience in outdoor programs, management of children and staff, and communication skills.
- Demonstrates good judgment in anticipating and preventing accidents, and possess the ability to make sound decisions in a crisis.
- Writes clearly, tactfully and effectively, demonstrating strong grammar and usage skills
- Enthusiasm, energy and a positive presence as a role model
Physical Aspects of the Job:
- Ability to effectively communicate orally.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards of the site and facilities and camper and staff behavior.
- Ability to provide first aid and to assist campers and staff in an emergency with a clear and level head
- Position requires you to live on site during the duration of the program including training.
