Temporary Property Maintainer

Oxford, CT

The Temporary Property Maintainer supports the upkeep and functionality of Girl Scouts of Connecticut camps and service centers by performing general maintenance, safety inspections, custodial tasks, and light construction work. This hands-on role requires flexibility, initiative, and the ability to work in all weather conditions with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate will be team-oriented and committed to safety, cleanliness, and high-quality property care.

Key Responsibilities:

General Maintenance & Groundskeeping

  • Complete assigned maintenance tasks (both verbal and written) in a timely and professional manner across multiple properties.
  • Submit daily work logs, vehicle logs, and any required documentation.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of buildings, restrooms, kitchens, and program spaces.
  • Perform weekly perimeter checks and property walkthroughs to ensure safety and security.
  • Lock and secure all structures not in use and report any security concerns promptly.
  • Maintain utility efficiency by ensuring lights are off, appliances are unplugged, and thermostats are adjusted appropriately.

Equipment Operation

  • Safely operate commercial and non-commercial power equipment, including but not limited to: mowers, weed trimmers, chainsaws, backpack blowers, pressure washers, snowplows, snow blowers, excavators, and woodchippers.
  • Load, haul, and operate council-owned vehicles and trailers as needed.

Technical & Facility Skills

  • Demonstrate moderate skills in carpentry, plumbing, painting, and basic electrical repair.
  • Perform pool maintenance (start-up, filtration, cleaning, and closure); CPO certification preferred.
  • Train seasonal staff on the proper care and use of pool facilities.

Emergency & Seasonal Duties

  • Be available for on-call emergencies, including evenings and weekends.
  • Plow, shovel, and apply ice melt to ensure safe access after snowfalls.
  • Remove hazardous trees and provide firewood supplies as needed.

Administrative & Procurement Support

  • Assist with incoming group reservations: confirm arrival details, ensure property readiness, and conduct post-visit inspections.
  • Procure supplies, obtain competitive quotes, and manage materials as directed.
  • Work collaboratively with internal departments and external vendors to support property needs.

Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record; ability to haul trailers and operate council vehicles.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to lift 90 lbs repeatedly and perform physical labor, including walking, bending, and climbing for extended periods.
  • Comfortable using smartphones, tablets, laptops, and basic technology platforms.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team at multiple camp locations.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must pass all required background checks.
  • Must register as a member of Girl Scouts of Connecticut.
  • Comply with all GSOFCT employee and property policies.
