2026 Day Camp Director of First Aid

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of First Aid works in partnership with the Camp Director and Administrative Team to ensure the health, safety, and wellness of all campers and staff. This position is responsible for daily triage, first aid care, medication management, state-required documentation, illness and injury reporting, and maintaining compliance with Connecticut Youth Camp regulations, ACA Standards, Girl Scout Safety Activity Checkpoints, and GSofCT policies.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Provide routine health care, triage, and first aid treatment to campers and staff following physician standing orders and accepted first aid practices.
- Maintain a secure, organized, and sanitary Health Center, ensuring infection control procedures are always followed.
- Review and verify required medical forms, health histories, and immunization records prior to camper arrival; identify missing documentation and coordinate follow-up with families.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure secure handling of medical records.
- Maintain accurate health logs, treatment notes, and daily documentation in compliance with CT State Youth Camp Regulations.
- Administer medications in alignment with physician orders and GSofCT protocol, including secure storage, documentation in a Medication Administration Record (MAR), and controlled substance tracking.
- Ensure all medications meet compliance requirements prior to acceptance, including labeling, original containers, and written authorization.
- Prepare and maintain off-site first aid kits for units, field trips, and specialty program areas; restock as needed.
- Serve as primary medical response for on-site emergencies; support EMS activation and follow emergency procedures when necessary.
- Prepare and submit illness/injury incident reports in compliance with state licensing and GSofCT requirements; notify Camp Director promptly of all reportable incidents.
- Coordinate communication with guardians regarding illness, injury, or medication concerns.
- Conduct daily checks of bathrooms and relevant facilities for cleanliness, infection control, and sanitation concerns; submit repair requests as needed.
- Assist with pre-camp training related to health procedures, preventative safety, medication handling, and universal precautions.
- Participate in opening and closing of Health Center at start and end of camp season, including inventory, ordering, and equipment organization.
- Maintain a professional presence during camp activities and promote a culture of safety and wellbeing.
- Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- 2 years plus experience in the health care industry preferred High School graduate or equivalent. Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in healthcare preferred
- Show the willingness to abide by the policies and practices of Girl Scouts of Connecticut.
- RN, LPN, Paramedic, or EMT preferred licensed in CT
- Must hold a current First Aid Certificate, CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED, Medication Administration Certification with epi-pen and inhaler training.
- Commitment to the Girl Scout approach to outdoor education and experiential learning
- Strong leadership abilities
- Ability to work with a diverse group of campers and staff (background and abilities).
- The ideal candidate will possess management experience which relates to job responsibilities including successful experience in camping, group leadership, and organizational skills.
- Must possess experience working with children.

Physical Aspects of the Job:
- Ability to effectively communicate.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
- Must be able to traverse uneven terrain
- Must attend optional Camper overnights/late nights as applicable
- Ability to and physically able to endure out-of-doors work environment in extreme weather conditions.
